Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving was originally named Irving Community Hospital when it opened in 1964. It was so well constructed that some of our operating rooms have been in continual use since that time. However, surgery has improved vastly across the decades—and now it is time to upgrade our Surgical Services to meet the medical needs of patients from our community. It's one of three key projects the hospital is undertaking—and seeking community help in the form of gifts—so that it's prepared to care for future generations.
In 2024, the Irving hospital will begin construction on an expanded and enhanced surgical department. When this multi-phase renovation is done, we'll have nine larger and more technologically advanced operating rooms.
Cardiovascular Care enhancements are also in our plans, beginning with additional thoracic and complex cardiac surgeries in Irving. Those enhancements began in 2023.
Mom-Baby Medicine expansion of service comes on the heels of a December 2022 announcement by U.S. News and World Report that our maternity department is one of the top 300 in the country. We’ve seen changing referral patterns that have doubled the number of births at our hospital—almost overnight! We’ve opened, and plan to renovate, a vacated patient floor in our original tower to accommodate this growth; plus we need additional equipment to serve these tiniest members of our community and their moms.
Our Baylor Scott & White Irving Foundation team would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you about these, and other, projects at Irving’s only not-for-profit hospital. Please call 972-990-4391 today to schedule a visit!
